Who doesn’t love the feeling of being appreciated, noticed, thought of, and tickled that someone went out of their way to show us appreciation and love? It’s exciting, adds mystery to life, and lets us know we are seen, known and loved.
Have our kids seen us offer that intention toward them?
Like with our spouses, after many years of marriage, we may grow lax at really appreciating and going out of our way to show our children that we love them in a special way.
Sure, we packed their lunch, made sure they had clean laundry, and tucked them in, but have we let them know why we love them specifically for how God made them? Teaching them the thrill of a surprise note or a little bit of mystery in their day?
One way we can love them, pray for them, and instill in them what God’s love looks like, is with 7 Day of Scriptural Valentine’s.

What are 3 other Ways to Celebrate your Kids around Valentine’s Day?
- Discount Cards? – Pick up cards right after Valentine’s Day and give to your kids throughout the year. Why not be spontaneous and show them that you love just as much any time of the year? They will love the surprise and quickly after Valentine’s Day, everything will be 75% off!
- Write an early Birthday Note – While in a sentimental time, after this week of praying intentionally for them from 1 John and thinking of the ways that you love them, write them a birthday note to give them later, telling them of your hope and prayers for them this year. (Again, maybe from the after-Valentine sale?) But don’t forget where you stored it!
- Kids’ Treasure Box – Help them set up a box to keep cards and momentos they have received. When I was a kid I remember storing little treasures in a cigar box or old Whitman’s chocolate box at my grandmother’s house. We taped paper and added stickers to it and made it our own little treasure box. Perhaps you could recycle and decorate a box together or buy an inexpensive unpainted box at the craft store and make it a project to decorate. Together, make it something to keep any special notes from friends or from you.

As with most holidays where a gift or treat is received, it is easy for kids to end up thinking this day is just about them, counting up and treasuring how many candies and cards they received. Sometimes even bragging about it. It could easily be a day filled with jealousy.

OOOooo I love that idea of a treasure box! That is a wonderful project that I should most definitely start up with my daughter!

We always use Valentines Day as a way to show others the Love of Christ. We make things for Sunday school classes and teachers as well as get the kids a little something to show them that we also need to show them the love of Christ. I love these ideas!! Obviously, we should be showing this other times too, but it is fun to make this special!
